Range. India, southern China, Malay Archipelago, northern Australia. In Myan­mar, found in Mandalay and Yangon.

Uses
Leaf: Used in a fomentation.

Root: Used as a laxative and to treat dropsy, as an aperient.

Origin

Throughout greater part of India, ascending to an altitude of about 1,500 m in the Himalayas, also recorded from the Andamans.

Action:

Root—bitter and aperient. Prescribed in visceral obstructions, renal dropsy and ascites.

Leaves— used for fomenting piles and for haemorrhoidal pains.
